PTUA welcomes Liberals’ pledge to build Grovedale Station

And calls for frequent trains and bus connections

The Geelong Branch of the Public Transport Users Association today welcomed the Liberals' pledge to build a Grovedale Station, and called for bus connections and a frequent rail service, 7-days-a-week.

"The Liberal Party should be congratulated for taking the initiative on this long-overdue project," said Tim Petersen, Convenor of the Geelong Branch. "Grovedale Station is a key part of a better public transport system for southern Geelong and the Surf Coast."

"And if we are to get the most value out of this new infrastructure, we need frequent trains running to Grovedale 7-days-a-week, and buses from Torquay and Grovedale connecting to every train."

Mr Petersen said good services to Grovedale and the Surf Coast on both weekdays and weekends would provide a competitive alternative to driving and ease pressure on Latrobe Terrace.

Mr Petersen said it was disappointing that Labor was yet to commit to building the station, despite commissioning a report which concluded that the station was feasible. "Labor cannot afford to take Geelong’s support for granted."
