Maryborough to Ballarat Rail Link

The Public Tranport Users Association today congratulated the member of the Ballarat Province, Dianne Hadden, for raising the issue of the return of the Ballarat- Creswick- Maryborough passenger rail service during the adjournment debate last week in the Legislative Council.

In addition to the 1500 signatures returned in the Maryborough region, an additional 320 were collected by local PTUA member Jean Baker in Creswick.

PTUA spokesperson, Wendy Everingham was delighted at the response by the local communites in supporting the proposal to have rail returned. "It is now a further step in the right direction to have the areas public transport needs addressed in a public forum" she said.

Maryborough and the surrounding communities should be able to reap the benefit of the new "fast train" proposals and how better than to have their own commuter service connecting directly to the enhanced services in Ballarat.

"Effective public transport is a very important issue for the region. It is certainly time to be discussing the return of passenger rail" concluded Wendy Everingham.
