It's Time to Move

A New Vision for Public Transport

The Public Transport Users Association today launched its new policy document for Victoria, It's Time to Move.

The document was launched "under the clocks" at Flinders St Station by noted sustainable transport expert Professor Peter Newman of Murdoch University.

"Community visions are the heart and soul of a city," said Professor Newman.

"It's Time to Move presents a community vision for an alternative to car dependency, and it is these community visions that make a city more sustainable."

PTUA President Les Chandra said that It's Time to Move was the most exciting policy statement in public transport for a decade.

"Our publications are extensively researched by academics in the field and have been greeted with critical acclaim," said Mr Chandra. "It's Time to Move presents a realistic and practical vision for providing Melbourne with one of the best public transport systems in the world."

Mr Chandra added that the new publication would be circulated to members of parliament and local councils, as well as Melbourne's public transport operators and community organisations.

"We are honoured that our work has been endorsed by an internationally recognised expert and hope that it will be taken just as seriously by our elected representatives," concluded Mr Chandra.
