Bus Users Welcome Council’s Tick for Moorabool Street

The Geelong Branch of the Public Transport Users Association has congratulated the council on its decision to reinstate a central bus interchange in Moorabool Street. Geelong Branch convenor Paul Westcott said that the decision would make Geelong’s bus system more user-friendly and remove a major obstacle to future upgrades.

“It’s very pleasing to see the new council get off to such a positive start after four years of inaction,” Mr Westcott said. “With a single central interchange, buses won’t waste so much time in the city centre, and the State Government’s planned improvements can occur”.

Passengers welcome Parliamentary Rail Inquiry

The Public Transport Users Association has thrown its weight behind the announcement by the Greens MP, Greg Barber, that he will seek a parliamentary inquiry to investigate failures on Victoria’s rail system.

PTUA President Daniel Bowen said the extraordinary number of train cancellations over January – well over a thousand – were “simply unacceptable” for a system that should provide an alternative to car travel.

Hold the state government to account: Rally at Parliament on Tuesday

Crowded platformWith the rail system in crisis (again), now is the time to remind the government that they must be accountable.

Despite polls showing people would prefer more money be spent on public transport than roads, the government is planning massive expansion of the motorway system under the most recent transport plan. Meanwhile our rail system is falling apart, and most of Melbourne has no usable public transport. The government is clearly not listening.

WHAT: Stop the Brumby Government riding roughshod over our rights.

WHY: Bring back democracy.
